The rookery is home to several thousand Cattle Egrets, with good numbers of Little Blue Herons as well. This is a premier site to photograph young birds at close range. If you enter the stand of trees where most of the nests are located, be sure to wear a hat! The rookery is also a good place to look for butterflies and dragonflies in summer: sulphurs, hairstreaks, and wood-nymphs abound here. The rookery is unique because it affords birders and wildlife watchers a chance to view large numbers of breeding birds. This is an excellent site for school field trips. |
